Acrylic fabrication is at the very heart of what we do here at Mercury & Phillips Signs.
The fundamental processes of cutting, shaping and forming acrylic are used throughout our services and are broken down below
Cutting
Acrylic sheets can be cut into desired shapes in house using our laser cutter, CNC router or manual saw. These cuts can be precise and intricate, allowing complex designs to be achieved.
Bending and Forming
acrylic can be heated and bent to achieve curved or contoured shapes. This process is often used to create displays, decorative items and Boat Screens.
Bonding and Joining
Acrylic pieces can be bonded together using solvents that chemically fuse the surfaces, creating strong and seamless connections. Mechanical fixings, adhesives and other joining methods can also be used depending on the need of your project.
Polishing and Finishing
After fabrication, acrylic edges can be polished to achieve a clear smooth finish. This is especially important for applications where the acrylic will be used for display purposes.
Engraving and Etching
Acrylic can be engraved or etched using laser technology, creating detailed designs, text or patterns on the surface.
Thermoforming
This process is often called ‘flop’ moulding and involves heating the sheet until it becomes pliable enough to mould over a 3D shape, a dome for example. Once the material cools, it hardens to the formed shape.
Printing
Acrylic can be printed upon using various methods including direct UV printing, Screen Printing and vinyl application.
Machining
CNC machines can be used to create intricate designs and shapes by removing material from the acrylic sheet.
